Weldtec Designs

Weldtec Designs has been around for years and grew to become the de facto standard for “prerunner” in the East County area (eastern county of San Diego, CA) a few years back. It takes a lot to earn a spot like that in such a fickle neighborhood and they’ve been around.

They are often haunted by their earlier days as an emerging shop for some less than desirable work but they have matured in their skills and I have seen excellent workmanship come from them. Weldtec Designs has built literally hundreds of trucks in the Santee/El Cajon/San Diego area.

Synonymous with 983 or NINEIGHTHREE, Jeremy Johnson took his vision of building race trucks farther than most people ever dream. Times are a little slow for everyone right now but a trip by Weldtec Design in Santee shows that if you’re known for good quality service, you can survive the weather.

Having recently downgraded to a slightly smaller shop to compensate for a smaller staff and a desire for less overhead, the shop is packed with several trucks and buggies. In one corner sits an older bug with full swingarm and extended center-mount a-arm front end (custom spindles, etc.) waiting to get prepped for the season along with a few small changes. Across the shop, a Super Duty is having the front suspension geometry redesigned to better handle the mega-lift the customer had installed at another shop.

These guys handle it all, and everytime I’ve been by, they’ve been staying busy. More than I can say for

some shops!
